Create digital signature

When a digital signature is created, both identity and integrity are ensured

How do you create a digital or online signature? A digital signature contains two algorithms, one for identification, that the person signing is the right person. And one for integrity, that the signed document cannot be altered or manipulated after signing.

Creating a digital signature begins with selecting a document to be signed. It then determines who should sign and what authentication means are used for identification. All of this is done online.

To create a digital signature, the signers then receive a message that they may sign. They can then view (but not modify) and sign the digital document, identifying themselves in advance through one of the authentication means used, for example, an e-mail icm with an SMS with tan code. Or authentication via DigiD.

After each selected signatory signs, the document is automatically sealed by a so-called stamping machine and a certificate of validity is attached to the document. The signatories all receive the signed document with attached proof of validity.

Reliability

The advanced digital signature and the qualified digital signature can be considered reliable. In both types of digital signature, you can assume that the signer is the one who has to sign and that the signed documents cannot be changed. This is not the case for the ordinary digital signature. It can therefore not be considered very reliable.
